SIRIUS GLASSWORKS X MINNOW BATHERS

Sirius Glassworks is a legacy studio situated near the sandy shores of Lake Erie in rural Niagara. One of the longest running glass studios in Canada, Sirius is under the direction of 2nd generation glass designer Iris Fraser-Gudrunas. Iris is a multi-disciplinary artist who carries on the hand blown glass tradition from her parents' founding of the studio in 1976. Sirius has a small roster of glassmakers, with Iris designing glassware that references the 50 years history of the studio paired with contemporary inspirations.

The Sirius Glassworks x Minnow Bathers collaboration print is a digital collage featuring a decade's worth of photographs of Iris's Nassau Series glasswares. The Nassau design motif began in 2013 in reference to a small community of artists living on Nassau St in Kensington Market through the early 2000's. The decoration for the Nassau series draws heavily on chance and experimentation by recycling 'failed' pieces within the studio and combining them with an ever changing mix of fabricated decor. The reused glass is crushed into shards and rolled onto new work and then shaped with hand tools made of wood and steel while the glass is molten. The fluid nature of shaping blown glass means that every Nassau piece is unpredictable until its finished form, creating painterly improvisations that cannot be duplicated. Every Nassau piece is entirely unique.

Each bather in this series is one of a kind and features a different motif from the Nassau collage.
